BEIJING -- Dawn was only a relative concept at Tiananmen Square on Friday as thousands greeted the most auspicious day in the modern history of the world's largest nation with an unequivocal valedictory salute.
Oozing from dark gray to light gray, the now-infamous murky civic lid did not diminish the joy as the national flag was raised in China's throbbing heart by a military color guard exhorted by cheers, chants, anthems and tears.
Enough already with Western skepticism and Eastern insecurity. The Olympic Games finally were here, passing through the arch of 8/8/08 that portends good fortune in Chinese numerology. Where China ...
