WASHINGTON -- The American Apparel Manufacturers Association has appealed to Capitol Hill and the White House to monitor and possibly curb a Labor Department initiative of publishing names of apparel manufacturers who contract with shops found to have violated federal wage laws.
Meetings are being sought this week with members of the Senate Labor Committee and the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor to urge more oversight of the Labor Department, said Michael Gale, AAMA director of government relations.
"We want to know whether Labor is properly performing functions or engaged in a witch hunt for publicity purposes," Gale said.
