TAOISEACH Brian Cowen was yesterday accused of being profoundly anti-democratic after refusing to rule out ratifying the Lisbon Treaty through the Houses of the Oireachtas.
Sinn F?in MEP Mary-Lou McDonald said that any attempt to pass the rejected treaty through the D?il and Seanad would be politically untenable.
However, the possibility that the Government will overturn the public No vote by pushing Lisbon through the back door has not been ruled out by the Taoiseach.
The Lisbon Treaty has remained top of the political agenda since the June 12 referendum.
