Increasing competition between property and casualty insurers means Steve Coleman, senior vice president and portfolio manager at Investment Advisers Inc., has less money to direct toward municipal bond investments in his insurance company portfolio.
Greater competition has diminished profits at the property and casualty company for which he manages money, cutting off the flow of assets previously reserved for investment in municipal bonds.
The property and casualty company, which has used municipal bonds to address cash-flow liability needs, has had to adjust its policy premiums in an effort to remain competitive, Coleman explained.
