NEW YORK--While the news that Warnaco will cease to market Hathaway hardly came as a surprise to the dress shirt industry, competitors agree that Hathaway has been declining for a long time, but is a venerable old name that could be revived.
Robert Skinner, president of Oxford Shirtings, said: "Hathaway has been a strong consumer franchise for many decades. But recently there has been a lack of investment in the brand. Certainly it's in need of a fix if it's going to continue in the future."
