Hot dogs have been the quintessential ballpark dining experience for generations of baseball fans. What could be more convenient? Eat them with one hand while you shake the other at the umpire.
``They never taste as good as they do at the ballpark,'' say folks who otherwise never eat them.
But the truth is, baseball fans in stadiums are eating far fewer hot dogs then they once were.
``We used to say that for every 10 tickets sold, eight hot dogs were eaten,'' says Janet Riley of the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council. ``Now we say three hot dogs.''
