SEATTLE - The ball took off from Adrian Beltre's bat. Fans in right field rose from their seats.
Many things went through Twins manager Ron Gardenhire's mind, as the Twins' seventh-inning lead existed only as long as the ball hit by the Mariners masher stayed in the park.
"You don't want to know my thoughts," he said.
But right fielder Denard Span had a bead on the drive and, as he admitted, "I have a little bit of hops."
He got back to the wall and timed his leap perfectly. His glove and part of his arm cleared the wall as he snatched the ball down, stealing a two-run homer and preserving a 7-3 victory.
