Printers may be taking a brief respite but press manufacturers push on with innovation.
Are web offset printers taking a respite from a threeyear buying spree or still placing orders for new equipment? The answer depends on who you talk to. Some press manufacturers feel that web sales are not as active as the booming sheetfed market (see March 1996).
"I'd characterize web offset press sales as taking a breather," observes Joe Abbott, director of technical support for MAN Roland. "The top 25 printers are the most quiet, but that's because they bought the most presses recently. It's the next 75 printers that are recording the most activity.
