ABOARD HMS ILLUSTRIOUS OFF THE SOUTH CAROLINA COAST----As a newer, more capable generation fighters and helicopters enter service, Britain's future carriers should be larger, according a senior British naval commander.

"I would hope that the future carrier would be bigger," said Rear Adm. Alan West, Distinguished Service Cross, the commander of the United Kingdom Task Group, in a May 4 interview. "The great joy of a big flat top with a hangar is that you have great flexibility in terms of the mix and weapons you can carry."
