SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 1996--NEC Technologies' Internet Business Unit (IBU) announced today that it has licensed its commercial-grade SocksPlus(TM) firewall software for client applications to Aventail(TM) Corporation, a new network security company in Campbell, Calif.
SocksPlus is NEC's commercial implementation of the SOCKS client/server firewall protocol that gained popularity among early Internet users. Aventail was founded in January 1996 to develop and market tools for network managers to assure secure and safe Internet access for users of a corporate network.
