Article: Dr. Arthur P. David, 91, ex-Howard Univ. prof, dies.(Brief Article)(Obituary)

Dr. Arthur Paul Davis, an educator who taught English at Howard University from 1944 until he retired in 1980 as a university professor, recently died of cardiopulmonary arrest at the Washington (D.C.) Hospital Center. He was 91.

Also an author and editor, Dr. Davis was responsible for numerous works on Black literary history and scholarship. A book he co-edited, The New Cavalcade: Negro American Writers from 1760 to the Present, which included two volumes, became one of the major texts for college courses on Black literature.
