Anyone finding themselves shipwrecked on the island of Sir Bani Yas might be forgiven for believing themselves victims of too much sun. The island, lying 210 kilometres west of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, is a vast nature reserve. However, many of the animals found wandering through these protected acres bear little resemblance to indigenous species. Coming ashore you might encounter oryx, eland or giraffe among 23 different kinds of animals including 40-50,000 gazelle.
