Of the many fine summer-flowering plants available at nurseries, the following were mentioned most frequently by our experts for reliable bloom and ease of use in the garden. But, cautions Peter Lassig, "Horticultural lists don't guarantee good design.... If followed too carefully, they could tear the heart out of some of the most exciting combinations we know." Use these as starting points around which to build other plant combinations.
