As a growing number of managed health care members are finding out, a nurse is just a phone call away.
Telephone banks staffed by registered nurses are gaining in popularity as a feature in managed care plans, said Doug Weiss, a senior vice president with Employee Managed Care Corp., Seattle.
The services typically offer health information and steer clear of medical advice.
At Employee Managed Care, 35 nurses currently staff four phone programs serving 1.2 million members of managed care plans. By year-end, Mr. Weiss expects total membership will grow to between 3 million and 5 million.
