PRISON chiefs are close to completing a pilot project to block mobile phones in jails.
The news comes after it emerged that Liam Keane had been updating his Bebo web-page using a mobile phone in Limerick prison.
The 23-year-old nephew of Limerick gangland murder victim Kieran Keane used the phone to take several pictures of himself in his cell for the popular social networking website.
Keane has been on remand since the beginning of May on firearms charges. It is understood that prison officers discovered the phone in a search two weeks ago.
