TAXPAYERS have been left to pick up the [pounds sterling]10,000 bill after gipsies took control of a council-owned car park.
For nearly three weeks the public were unable to park at Bank Street, Brighouse, because it was blocked by dozens of caravans and vehicles owned by the illegal campers.
Calderdale Council issued eviction notices to the first wave, requesting they leave immediately.
That request was ignored so the authority then sought legal action through the courts, and the gipsies were ordered to attend Halifax County Court yesterday.
But before a decision could be taken to remove them forcibly by bailiffs the gipsies vacated ...
