Healthy gains for oil and mining stocks drove the FTSE 100 Index's yesterday as it climbed to just short of the 5500 mark.
The blue-chip share index closed up 48.8 points at 5497.4, making up more than half Wednesday's chunky loss which came amid continuing economic gloom.
