NORTHERN Broadsides' Barrie Rutter is looking for backing from Calderdale businesses to take Shakespeare to China.

A year before the world's attention is focused on the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he is hoping to take the Dean Clough company on a 14-date, three-city tour of China.

Already he has the support of J and C Joel, stage equipment manufacturers in Sowerby Bridge, who export to China, but Barrie said Northern Broadsides needed more backing.

If successful, Barrie hopes to return next year and reach a wider audience at the Beijing Olympics, and boost the number of Calderdale firms doing business in China.
