Harrisons Malayalam Ltd. of India is reinvesting in its rubber plantation business after years of little or no replanting.
The company plans to spend about $15 million on the planting project, which also involves its tea plantation but to a far lesser degree, said Pankaj Kapoor, managing director of the company. The firm, which has 10 rubber estates in the prime growing area of south India, also is upgrading machinery used for rubber processing, he said.
Presently about 85 percent of the rubber from the plantation goes to Indian customers, and 15 percent is exported, he said. But the export figure could be expanded if ...
