Universal Jackpots v. Intelligent Design.(FORUM: Cosmic Jackpot Journalism Supernatural Beliefs Animal Rights)(Letter to the editor)

The title "Jackpot or Crackpot" in Sid Deutsch's review of Paul Davies' Cosmic Jackpot: Why Our Universe is Just Right for Life (SKEPTIC, Vol. 14, No. 1) and its statement that Davies "veers dangerously close to invoking "intelligent design [ID] in biology" give the strong impression that Cosmic Jackpot may be just another ID book. However, after further examination, I think that Davies' book shows a panentheistic orientation whereas ID (as I understand it) is guided by theism.

Panentheism upholds the validity of science in a "presumption of naturalism," whereas my understanding of ID is that it claims that god creates and then intervenes in nature in supernatural ways. ...
