NEW YORK - The acetate filament fiber market is tight and getting tighter, as knitters and weavers scramble for new sources or substitutes.
The critical shortage of acetate yarn is worldwide and this global aspect may be causing part of the problem for U.S. mills. Some mills and other sources feel, because the overseas price is higher, some of the domestic supply is being exported, rather than sold to domestic mills. There is no doubt it is cutting down fiber import alternatives.
A major application for acetate is in the linings business, including for men's tailored clothing, but acetate and acetate blend knits have also been growing at a strong pace.
