DEFENDING champion Jim Derby of Radcliffe won through to this year's Clifford Crawshaw Classic finals when he won through the qualifiers at Hill Crest on Saturday.
This is the fourth year running Derby has made finals night as he lost in the semi-final in 2004 and the quarter final in 2005 before beating Robert Hitchen in last year's final.
First opponent for Derby was Yorkshire county player Gareth Nicholson (Holmfield), and he was quickly into his stride as he took a 13-7 lead.
Nicholson replied with two singles, but a break of six then gave Derby a commanding 19-9 lead and he eventually sailed to game 31-14.
