For 31 years, four eternal truths have held fast in the Star Wars universe. One: the acting is wooden. Two: the effects rock. Three: the dialogue's banal. And finally: the entire franchise is essentially a bodacious, galaxy-hopping Saturday-morning children's show. Live actors or not, it's a cartoon.
You can debate Joseph Campbellian archetypes until you're blue in your nostrily alien face, but George Lucas tapped the audience's inner 8-year-old better than any filmmaker since the silent era.
