ONE of the UK's top hovercraft pilots will compete in a major national competition this weekend in a vehicle he built with his own hands.

Swinford's Lee Willars (30) will race the amphibious machine up to 70mph on land and water at the British Hovercraft Championships.

The event is being held on private land at Sharnford near Hinckley and is not open to spectators.

Despite being ranked number three in the UK he said a win was unlikely as he and his craft suffered injuries at the world championships held in France in August.
