A HEARTFELT appeal for children's books has been launched by a Little Bowden illustrator who wants youngsters in Kyrgyzstan to benefit from the joys of reading.
Liz Minichiello, of Scotland Road, is heading to the central Asian region on February 28 and is appealing for Mail readers to donate new or nearly-new illustrated children's books that will be sent out to the impoverished country.
There are only four bookshops in Kyrgyzstan's capital Bishkek and only about 20 new books are published in the former Soviet Union country each year.
