MOUNT CARMEL--May 19--An 8,000-acre, multimillion-dollar tourist resort now open on Zion National Park's eastern border hopes to lure customers away from the traditional gateway community of Springdale at the park's western entrance.
"This whole east-side corridor has been socioeconomically repressed, it's never enjoyed the level of tourism that the west side of the park has," says William Johnson, general manager of the Zion Ponderosa Resort, located atop the wooded mountains on the eastern edge of Utah's busiest national park.
