TWO cousins accused of violently assaulting a pair of Asian builders have denied they have racist tendencies.
Hartlepool pair Gary Rowbotham, 19, and Carl Bown, 20, are standing trial at Teesside Crown Court accused of assaulting Mansoor Hussain Abbas and Irfan Ahmed outside a mosque.
Both Rowbotham and Bown deny prosecution claims they are racist, though both admit to using racist insults when joking around with black friends.
The attack is alleged to have taken place in Hartlepool's Brougham Terrace after Rowbotham admits he became both "angry" and "paranoid" when he heard Mr Abbas and Mr Ahmed speaking in a foreign language.
