ALEXANDRIA, Va.--Large quantities of prescription drugs classified as controlled substances are being brought into the United States from Mexico for illegal resale, suggests a study funded by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores and the Texas Pharmacy Foundation.
The medications are purchased in Mexican pharmacies by U.S. residents for transportation across the border at legal crossing points, the study found. It reports that of the top 15 drug products declared to U.S. Customs agents at the Laredo, Tex., border crossing, all but one are classified as controlled substances.
