The suspension of an ornithologist and two of his senior colleagues, over their concerns about a proposed massive residential development in Kimberley near an acclaimed birding site, has enraged environmentalists.
This week, the Department of Tourism, Environment and Nature Conservation in the Northern Cape placed Mark Anderson, a specialist nature conservation scientist, Julius Koen, deputy director of conservation, and Eric Hermann from scientific services, on suspension for their role in what it terms the "Flamingo Saga".
