In the summer of 1993, Mara Seibert and Lenore Rice, with their husbands and children, rented a villa in Tuscany. One afternoon, the two women found themselves in the little town of Impruneta, admiring the terracotta pots made by twelft-generation artisans. When they returned to suburban New Jersey, the friends did not come home empty-handed: they imported a pallet of pots from Impruneta, then, after securing exclusive agreements with the workshops there, proceeded to start a business and take orders. Two years later, their pots won Best in Show in the marketplace division at the New York Flower Show.
