Much has been written in recent years about how people construct knowledge by trying to accommodate incoming information to what they already know and believe. Teachers cannot directly transfer knowledge from their heads to those of their pupils. The pupils must actively construct their own knowledge, and the construction process is not always accurate. A number of studies on how students construct new knowledge, especially in science, have been conducted. Less has been written about how teachers' epistemological constructs affect teaching.
