The development of strong relationships remains one of the greatest challenges faced by volunteer and staff leadership. Avoid shortcuts and take time because each prospect must be individually assessed and an individual plan designed.
The key to major gifts is the creation and cultivation of cooperative relationships. Humans are made for relationships. Without them we become like Robinson Crusoe who, in his loneliness, yelled out his name before a cliff to hear the sound of his echoed voice. Our brains are wired to make connections. Relationships and connections are part of our nature, enrich our lives and direct many of our behaviors.
