CHANDLER, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 28, 1996--Motorola Satellite Communications Division (SATCOM) Chandler, has issued orders to Siemens AG, with headquarters in Berlin and Munich, Germany, to solely supply switching equipment for the IRIDIUM(R) system, the global mobile satellite telephone network designed to serve handheld telephones.
The order volume exceeds US $65 million and includes a long-term service contract for the equipment delivered for IRIDIUM System Gateways. The D900 Mobile Switching Center from Siemens is a core element of the system technology used to link the IRIDIUM Network to existing ground based telecommunications networks worldwide.
