It was a Friday, payday, but when hospice nurse Julie Thomas arrived at the Sierra Oaks of Santa Clara residential care facility on Aug. 1, the buzz was already going.
"The scuttlebutt was that paychecks weren't going to be issued until the next week," says Thomas, who pays frequent visits to patients at the facility, just east of River Road at 140 Green Lane.
Thomas, who works for PeaceHealth and not Sierra Oaks, was worried. "I know this staff as a caring, committed group of men and women who provide a loving home for their residents," she says.
