King 'Abdullah-II of Jordan on Aug. 11 made an unannounced visit to Baghdad and held talks with PM Maliki. It was the first visit to Iraq by an Arab head of state since the US toppled Saddam in April 2003. An Iraqi government statement said: 'Abdullah-II had "positive talks" with Maliki.
Ties between the two neighbouring states have been strained since Saddam's government collapsed. The visit lasted only four hours and the king left before his visit had been announced. An earlier trip set for July was cancelled because Jordanian officials did not want any advance publicity.
