A MEMBER of Hunstanton's volunteer lifeboat crew has become the first woman in the RNLI to ever gain a hovercraft pilot's licence.
Mrs Leesa Espley, who had laser eye correction in order to join the station in 2003, is now the only woman in all the country's RNLI stations to be able to 'fly' the hovercraft in rescue emergencies.
The 36-year-old, who is also a supply teacher at Heacham Junior School and a retained firefighter for the village, gained the qualification last week after examiners from the RNLI training college in Poole, Dorset, travelled all the way to Hunstanton to test her handling skills.
