The whole trend in New York City - in the whole country - is toward mixed retailing and eclecticism. There is a renewed energy coming from a mixed environment because often, no less than a dozen companies, both domestic and foreign, are vying for the same space. It has created an acceleration resulting in fierce competition between retailers and it has resulted in a whirlwind of leasing activity.
The leasing scene in New York City has, in the past few years, been described as active, buoyant, very competitive and a changing game of musical chairs.
That description isn't about to change soon.
