UN pays tribute to peace-mission officials killed in Iraq

United Nations, Aug 20 (PTI) United nations commemorated 22 of its staff members, who died in a blast while on a peace mission in Iraq five years ago.

"The attack had robbed the world body of some its best and bravest staff members. They were true heroes, who were sent to dangerous locations to help those in distress," UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said at a brief solemn ceremony held here yesterday.

The bombing on its headquarters in Baghdad had killed 22, including the world body's top envoy Sergio Vieira de Mello, and wounded more than 150. The attack led to a major security review ...
