Tories may have swept to power pledging 'better waste collection' among their key promises.

But new district council leader Michael Coker says there will be no policy shift on fortnightly bin collections.

And that means the much-criticised proposals will almost certainly be up and running by April 2008.

In an interview this week Coun Coker (Kenilworth Abbey), said the plans to alternate the collection of recycling and household waste each week were something the district "could not afford not to do".
