Gipsies and Irish Travellers have suffered injustice too long, says Milton Keynes Racial Equality Council chief Navrita Atwal.
She was speaking after another race watchdog called for the integration of those groups into society.
In October 2004 the Commission for Racial Equality set up an inquiry into whether local authorities were promoting equal opportunities and good race relations with gipsies and travellers as required under the Race Relations Act.
It found two-thirds of gipsies and travellers suffered tensions linked to their unauthorised encampments and developments.
