Town versus gown
It is time the City took time to trawl the shoals of academics in order to draw on new talent, says CSFI
UK academics are a lazy lot - particularly when it comes to finance. In the US, names like Fisher Black, Myron Sholes and Merton Miller are as big on Wall Street as they are at Harvard or MIT, and a successful firm like Long-Term Capital Partners can be built by marrying the top talent from Salomon Bros with super-academics like David Mullins.
There just seem to be more places in the US where the two worlds collide: the Fed vice-chairmanship, for instance, is virtually an academic preserve. So is the Congressional Budget Office; so ...
