THE strains of Amazing Grace sung by a choir at St Peter and St Paul's Church, Olney, will have added poignancy this Sunday.
For it will be the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade, and John Newton one of the key members of the movement, wrote the hymn while he was a curate at the church.
The 4pm service will be one of many events held over the year to commemorate Olney's connection with the ending of the transatlantic slave trade.
And the Heritage Lottery Fund has donated [pounds sterling]49,000 for a special exhibition in Milton Keynes.
