When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University, died July 25 at age 47, he left behind a legacy for his children titled "The Last Lecture,'' co-written with Jeffrey Zaslow, a reporter with The Wall Street Journal.

Mr. Pausch learned in 2006 that pancreatic cancer would end his life, and on Sept. 17, 2007, he gave his last lecture to his students.

The event has been viewed by millions on the Internet, and the book Mr. Pausch co-wrote with Mr. Zaslow has been a bestseller since its April publication.

"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand,'' Mr. Pausch said. ...
