EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

THE 25 largest property and casualty insurers in California accounted for 74 percent of the premium volume written statewide in 2007. The premiums written by those firms were valued at $46.2 billion, down $1.2 billion from the previous year. It's the third consecutive year of decline in the total value of premiums written by the largest insurers.

The top three companies held their respective positions with American International Group Inc. remaining the largest property/casualty insurer in the state. No. 4 Allstate Insurance Group moved up one spot with $3 billion in premiums written.
