Retired Lt. Gen. Calvin A. H. Waller, 58, a 32-year combat veteran who was deputy commander of the U.S. forces during the Gulf War, recently died in Washington, D.C., of a heart attack.
Waller served in Vietnam and Korea, and was one of the Army's highest-ranking Blacks when he retired in 1991.
"Gen. Waller achieved prominence as a skillful and disciplined professional and a caring, enthusiastic commander," said President Clinton in a statement issued by the White House.
