Opportunities for organizations to leverage their supply function to create competitive advantage are well documented in the literature (e.g., Nelson 2004). However, before CEOs can develop and implement strategies aimed at exploiting opportunities in their supply chains, they must first establish appropriate capabilities including functional talent and leadership.
