OBAMA supporters are fighting complacency in the Democratic camp and warning of the genuine prospect of Republicans returning to Washington for a third successive presidential term.

A poll commissioned by the New York Times and CBS puts Obama on 45% and McCain on 42% - a figure within the 3% margin of error. A Reuters poll gave McCain a lead of 5%.
