But to some, it brings misery also and suffering. To them, pollen from blossoming flowers filling the air are scourges that last for two months of sneezing, runny nose, swollen eyes and low self-esteem. Medically known as Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis, hay fever paroxysms are induced by pollen--the fine dust grains produced by the anthers of seed plants that comes as part of their reproduction process at this time of the year, causing inflammation to the nasal passage, eyes, throat and sinus.
