Thousands of workers are getting laid off in Michigan as businesses continue to struggle. The high cost of health care is cited as one of the largest costs of doing business in the U.S. The business community's profitability, workers' health and productivity and the nation's global competitiveness have been impacted by America's for-profit health care system. Automakers pay more to provide coverage for their employees than the steel frames needed for the cars they produce.
