A 20FT wooden cross which is shrouded in mystery has been hacked down by an unknown culprit.
The cross, which was erected on Alnwick Moor, was discovered sawn in two at the weekend after an anonymous tip-off to the Gazette.
To add to the alluring mystery, the unknown vandal did not move the top part of the cross, but left it dumped beside its base which was set in concrete.
The mystery adds to an already bizarre tale, as the origins of the cross are far from clear.
The religious symbol, located about 100 yards from the Brizlee Wood RAF radar site, was apparently erected during the night on Good Friday.
